Biography of Martyr Sayyid Abbas Musavi

Sayyid Abbas Musavi was born in 1952 in the town of Nabi Sheet of Balabek in Lebanon. His father was among the professional architects of the tower of the mosque. After a few years, his family went to Zahiyeh, the southern part of Beirut. Sayyid, spent his first few years of school in this region. When he reached the age of 18, the love for Palestine was in his heart. He was upset with the massacre of the people of Palestine.

One day, father of Sayyid couldn’t find him at home. Later he understood that Sayyid, with some of his brothers in the resistance of Lebanon, has gone to Syria to see the military against the Zionist regime. When Sayyid’s family came to know of this, they left for Syria to bring their son back. When they reached the place of training, they saw a Palestinian and a Tunisian along with Sayyid had fallen on the ground from the rope that they were practicing. The Palestinian boy broke his back and Sayyid’s leg was also broken. Sayyid’s family insisted that he returns so that his leg could be treated, but he was adamant on staying. His parents even asked the authorities to explain to him and after forcing him too much he agreed to return with his parents to Beirut so that his leg could be treated.

One day, Sayyid dreamt of Imam Musa Al Sadr. Later, he told his father that he wanted to meet Imam Musa Al Sadr and his father took him to meet Musa al-Sadr. Imam Musa Al Sadr became happy meeting Sayyid and was highly impressed by the young man’s courage. Sayyid lived with Imam Musa Al Sadr for a period of two years and he studied seminary course under his care. After two years when Imam Musa Al Sadr saw that Sayyid was a hard working man, he brought a turban, put on Sayyid’s head and asked him to go to Najaf. Imam Musa then wrote to Sayyid Muhammad Baqir Al Sadr in Iraq and informed him about Sayyid Abbas. Imam Muhammad Baqir Sadr and Sayyid developed fondness for each other. Once when Sayyid Hasan Nasrallah went to Iraq with the letter of Imam Musa Al Sadr he enquires about Baqir Al-Sadr, he is informed that Imam Muhammad Baqir Al Sadr is monitored and only one person has the courage to take you to him and that is Sayyid Abbas Musavi.” And in this way Sayyid Hasan Nasrallah met Sayyid Abbas Musavi. First because of his skin colour, he thought Sayyid Abbas was an Iraqi but later realized he too is Lebanese. Sayyid Abbas Musavi took Sayyid Hasan Nasrallah to Imam Muhammad Baqir Al Sadr after the Ziyarat to the shrine of Imam Ali (AS). When Sayyid Abbas informs Imam Mohammad Baqir Al-Sadr that Sayyid Hasan Nasrallah wants to get trained and study under him (i.e: Al-Sadr), Imam Muhammad Baqir Al Sadr gives some money to Sayyid Abbas and tells him to get turban and spiritual clothes and from that day onwards makes him Sayyid Hasan Nasrallah’s teacher. Iraq plans to assassinate Sayyid Abbas. All the scholars who were under the prosecution of the regime of Iraq assembled together and left for Lebanon secretly. Sayyid Abbas stayed for about six months in the same village and then went to Balabek.

In the year 1979, the seminary for education was established by the clerics in Balabek, who had come to Lebanon. His wife, whose name was Um Yasir, was trained under sister of Imam Musa Al Sadr, established a seminary of education “Al Zahra” for the sisters. When Israel occupied Beirut in the year 1982, Sayyid Abbas Musavi gathered all the great and brave men in 1982 and established Islamic Resistance, which continues till date. In 1970, Sayyid Abbas traveled to Iran and met Imam Khomeini and was greatly influences by his ideologies. Later, Sayyid moved to Beirut. His wife Um Yasir and his son Husain had accompanied him. His wife was also with him because Sayyid had told her that he will get martyred. When they reached the province named Tafahta on the 16th of February 1993, several helicopters came from behind the mountains and rained missiles on Sayyid’s motorcade. This brutal and cowardly attack martyred Sayyid, his wife and his 9 year old child. But the guards of Sayyid survived in this brutal attack just as Sayyid had predicted. Even though Sayyid Abbas Musavi was martyred in 1993, his light still shines in the hearts of millions who know him and his sacrifice in the way Islam.
